Our aim at Homelea Residential Care Home is to make a real and measurable difference in the lives of those living with dementia and dementia-like conditions by providing first class care. It is to help alleviate the emotional, mental and physical suffering that can accompany the day to day experience of managing dementia.

We do this by providing long-term, short-term and day care accommodation for 27 residents with dementia and similar conditions. Personalised care plans are tailored around the needs of each resident and adjusting as these change. We plan care by drawing on the expertise, experience and support of a multi-disciplinary team comprising of a keyworker, relatives, primary and secondary medical staff and other agencies.

At Homelea we understand the difficulties, anxieties and confusion that can become a part of the journey of living with dementia. We know that having the right balance of support and care makes a world of difference. We would like to think that our sharing the journey with you makes things that much easier.

Care at Homelea is guided by a thoughtful set of 5 principles that help us offer residents the type of attention that honours them as individuals with unique needs, preferences and journeys.

Our 5 care principles are

Home from home care: we provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for individuals living with dementia and dementia like symptoms. Our home is warm, bright and friendly. Of course, it’s the little things like personal photographs, ornaments and keepsakes that also help to make it so and residents are therefore encouraged to bring in their own items and to make their space their own.

Respectful care: by recognising, respecting and reaffirming the identity and preferences of each person we are able to show the value, care, dignity and sensitivity that is needed to make one feel at home. We listen.

Personalised or person-centred care: this guides our decisions for our care plans and for daily living. Whether the need is short-term, long-term or day care, it’s never one size fits all and always flexible to a resident’s changing needs.

Expert care: Homelea is run by qualified practitioners who are very much part of the evaluation process that informs every individual care plan. We can also arrange visits by a resident’s GP and dentist as well as opticians and physiotherapists as and when needed. Residents can also access services from third party providers such as hairdressers and chiropodists (who charge separately).

Staff care: on a day to day basis our staff remain at the forefront of delivering and maintaining the highest quality of dementia care, so it’s important that they know how to care. Homelea is therefore staffed by professional, trained and qualified staff 24 hours a day. We have two wakeful night staff on hand during out of social hours. We invest in our staff with regular training so they are kept up-to-date on dementia care, and we organise regular in-house meetings so all staff remain up-to-date on day to day issues too.

Accommodation

Each one of our 27 single rooms is designed to reflect our principles. Rooms are kept clean, airy and bright; they are decorated and furnished to a tasteful standard and the majority have en-suite facilities.

Homelea has a separate treatment, therapy and visitors room which is handy when extra privacy is desired. You’ll also find the home spacious with an attractive and comfortable lounge and a modern entertainment system that includes TV, video, DVD and music facilities. There are two separate dining room areas.

Recreational Activities

Residents can enjoy the benefits of the sensory garden, which promotes both relaxation and stimulation via the visual, aural and tactile senses. In addition to this we often have visits by outside entertainers – it could be a sing song, comedy evening or storytelling session.

We also have a variety of gentle in-house social and recreational activities available daily, from gentle exercise, to supervised cooking, board games and reading. For those who like to keep up with news, daily newspapers are always available.

Meals

Our menu is varied but always nutritious, delicious and prepared using fresh ingredients where possible. We have our own in-house experienced catering team who plan and prepare three meals daily. Refreshments such as tea, coffee and other soft beverages are served throughout the day. Most meals are of an English cuisine style. Staff take into reconsideration the likes and dislikes of residents and do their best to accommodate these. Birthdays are always exciting at Homelea because there’s always a lovely cake to celebrate the occasion.
